Vic; Electricity price cut for new year
MELBOURNE, Dec 28 AAP - Victorians are to pay less for their electricity after New
Year's Day, the state government said today.
The new power prices will deliver cuts of about five per cent to both domestic and
business users, Acting Energy Minister Lynne Kosky said in a statement today.
She said the reductions, effective from next Monday, were ordered by the umpire for
Victoria's privatised electricity system, the Office of the Regulator General (ORG) because
distribution costs had fallen.
Under the legislation privatising the state's wholesale and retail electricity markets
the Regulator General has the authority to set the prices charged by all sectors of the
system for the benefit of consumers.
