QLD: Rural industries wary of water management plan = 2

Mr Lester also said export opportunities and job growth had been dealt a blow with a
decision by the government to axe the Flinders River dam planned for Richmond.

He said the Finch Hatton and St Helen's Creek dams near Mackay were axed before Christmas
and the Natham dam planned for central Queensland had been put on hold.

Mr Lester said the Flinders dam was to hold 620,000 megalitres of water to irrigate
vegetable farms, grains, oil seed, cotton and stock fodder.

"This decision speaks volumes about the government's professed commitment to job creation,"
Mr Lester said.
