Bodine backs up bravado

Geoff Bodine, making good on a pre-race prediction, led thefinal 146 laps Sunday to win the Hanes 500 at Martinsville (Va.)Speedway.

Bodine, who started the 500-lap race from the pole position,earned his first victory of the season and eighth of his NASCARWinston Cup career.

Before the race, Bodine boasted he would give car owner JuniorJohnson a victory over the tough .526-mile oval.

The 41-year-old Bodine said, "It ain't bragging if you do it."

And Bodine did it after holding off challenges from RustyWallace and Alan Kulwicki. Bodine pulled away from second-placeWallace late in the race for the victory.
