Facebook faces call to ban sex offenders.(News)

A CHILD abuse campaigner has called on social network sites like Facebook to slap an outright ban on convicted sex offenders.

Activist Chris Wittwer, who names and shames more than 400 Irish paedos on his website, said vile perverts are using social sites to lure kids for sex.

The tireless campaigner set up his site C.H.R.I.S (Children Have Rights in Society) two months ago, believing people have a right to know about paedophiles in their area.

His website provides photographs and details of more than 9,000 convicted sex offenders in Ireland and the UK.

Among those listed on his site are convicted child abuser and former priest Oliver O'Grady and writer Desmond Hogan, who received a suspended sentence in 2009 after pleading guilty to the aggravated sexual assault of a 15-year-old boy.

But Chris claims vile perverts in Ireland are now using the internet to befriend kids.

Last November, married Cork man Colm Twomey, 39, was jailed for 18 months for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy he met on Bebo.

Chris said: "Paedophiles find the internet an easier place to participate in a range of child sexual abuse activity including contact with children due to the anonymity of it.

"My website has established that there are countless profiles created by paedophiles, sometimes using their real names.

"I feel not enough is being done to eradicate these sick minded people and keep them banned."

Chris said that all convicted paedophiles on the sex offenders register should be fully monitored when using the internet.
